Fremde werden Freunde e.V., together with our Research Fellow Dr. Tobias Spöri, has published a research report on political participation of refugees in Vienna. As more than 30% of the population aged 16 and older in Vienna cannot participate in elections due to their citizenship, the analysis focused on other participation opportunities for refugees that enable active involvement in society and politics, even without having the right to vote.

A total number of six expert interviews and 14 guideline-based interviews with people with a refugee background living in Vienna were conducted and analyzed. The results clearly show that people with a refugee background are interested in politics, want to participate in the political processes and are voluntary engaged in civil society.
