About youth political engagement

Young people’s engagement as citizens has increasingly come into the spotlight. In politics, in the media, and in research there is an ongoing debate about how engaged (or not) young people are in democracies.

At d|part, we focus on research with young people to understand how they see the societies they are a part of and how they are changing our conceptions of democracies. Research on young people also always provides a vantage point for understanding the broader changes that our societies are undergoing.

Our research looks at young people’s engagement in democratic processes, their motivations and barriers to participation and young people’s attitudes to political issues. We have done extensive research on the issue of the lowering of the voting age.
