The project “JUGENDSTIL*” of the foundation “Bürger für Bürger” (Citizens for Citizens) aims to make young people with an international history in East Germany more visible as active shapers of society, to make their voices heard more and to open up effective opportunities for them to participate. Specifically, the project targets people between the ages of 14 and 27 with an international history (own or family history of migration or flight or self-designation as BIPoC, Black German, Sintizze and Romnja, Jewish, Muslim) who live in eastern Germany. The project aims to encourage the young people in their commitment through (financial) support, to stand up for their interests and concerns and thus to allow a living democracy to emerge. JUGENDSTIL* sees itself as an impulse giver and expedition companion on the way of those who contribute to an open and diverse society. In addition, the JUGENDSTIL* community facilitates an exchange of experiences with other young activists and offers the opportunity to find fellow campaigners for one’s own ideas. Over the course of the project so far, a strong network for young international engagement in eastern Germany has already emerged.
d|part conducts a scientific evaluation of the project. The aim is to gain insights into the ideas and expectations of post-migrant East German initiatives within the structures and actors that have emerged. Furthermore, existing (structural) obstacles in the social participation of the committed as well as in funding instruments are to be recorded and proposals for solutions are to be worked out together in order to make post-migrant East German voices heard more and to promote equal political participation for all.
